Leadership of the Beyond Compliance team is provided by experienced, seasoned individuals that speak the language of the field workers, make sense to supervisors, and understand the pressures of the boardroom. Through their unique skills and expertise, this dynamic group guides Beyond Compliance in providing exceptional solutions and service to our customers.

The Beyond Compliance leadership team believes in “doing the right thing” as a corporate philosophy. Every team member strives to make a difference, in a culture of flexibility and dedication that is unique.


Meet our Leaders

Michael Koury, President & CEO

Joining the team in 2004 as Vice-President Business Development, Michael was responsible for sales and marketing, opening new markets, and forming strategic partner relationships.  He became President & CEO in 2010 where he now assumes overall responsibility for strategic direction, operations and financial management.  Michael has over 25 years in the information technology industry, holding various leadership positions, with experience building corporate revenues, profits and market share. Following a successful career at IBM Canada Ltd, he helped drive significant growth as a partner/owner in an information technology company that served markets across Canada. Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Honors from the University of Alberta. He currently serves as a Director of the Calgary Science Center.

 

Ron Visser, Co-Founder & Chief Architect

As co-founder, Ron builds partner relationships, guides product strategy and leads marketplace opportunities. He has over 15 years of experience in assisting oil and gas corporations with environmental and operational compliance in Western Canada – both as a regulatory and environmental consultant and as an inspector for the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (AEUB). In addition to his regulatory and environmental experience, Ron is also certified through the Canadian Standards Association as an internal ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 auditor, and has developed QA/QC protocols for manufacturing processes.


Karen Hanna, Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs

Karen provides timely and effective advice with respect to the company’s day-to-day business and legal affairs. She also prepares and negotiates contracts relating to technology commercialization, software hosting and licensing, securities, confidential matters, employees, business associations, subcontractors, and consulting services. Karen also manages Beyond Compliance’s intellectual property portfolio, shareholder communications, and compliance with regulatory authorities.  Karen holds Bachelor Degrees in Science, Education and Laws, and a Masters Degree in Environmental Design. Karen is a member of the Alberta Law Society and the Canadian Bar Association.


Shane Denovan, Chief Technology Officer

Shane joined Beyond Compliance as the Chief Systems Architect in 2000. As CTO, Shane is responsible for establishing and executing Beyond Compliance’s technology architecture strategy. He has over 15 years of Information Technology experience and brings a diverse skill-set to Beyond Compliance that includes expertise in such areas as programming, security, networking, databases, operating systems, mobile devices, and internet-based server software. Shane holds multiple Bachelor Degrees of Science from the University of Calgary including: Computer Science, Industrial Psychology, and Zoology.


Jeff McPherson, Vice-President, Application Development

Jeff brings 20 years of software development and consulting experience to Beyond Compliance. He has designed, developed and managed business workflow and productivity applications for both client/server and web-based environments, within numerous industries, and has extensive experience in risk management and Sarbanes Oxley implementations. Jeff provides overall application software direction which incorporates an intuitive and consistent user interface and design across all modules. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.


Rick Clazie, Vice President, Client Services

Rick brings more than 15 years of progressive experience as the Client Services executive. Previously, Rick has managed technical services and sales operations teams in Oil and Gas Exploration Software, IT Outsourcing, and Support Automation,  He has also delivered applications and services to companies ranging from startups to Fortune 100 companies, and managed small and large scale projects both domestically and internationally. Rick is responsible for the successful implementation of BCI solutions and services, and provides leadership and guidance to the Client Services team. Rick has a Diploma in Business Management from SAIT combined with various formal and informal training in Project Management, Business Management, Service Support Management, and technical skills development.
